Brendalyn Carpenter Player has served more than 20 years as a professional communicator and Army Public Affairs practitioner. She entered the field as a Department of the Army Civilian intern in 1999 and increasingly gained more responsibilities, serving in a variety of senior-level roles including media relations, community relations and public information. Her assignments included the Department of the Army Headquarters in Washington, DC; Joint-Base Lewis-McChord in Washington State; and Fort Campbell, Kentucky as the U.S. Army Garrison Fort Campbell Director of Public Affairs.
Ironically, Brendalyn planned to enter a simple career after college. One with a predictable routine in exchange for a livable wage and a comfortable life for her family.
She envisioned a work-life best suited for her introvert personality. Instead, she was guided along a career path that stretched her far beyond her expectations.
Brendalyn interacted with diverse audiences including community, business and political leaders; as well as performed crisis communications on behalf of Army installations. While she adapted to her high-energy and fluid environment, time in the field and exposure to many great mentors revealed several important lessons that many struggle with today.
She developed strategies to nurture her introvert preferences while achieving success in their profession.
Personalities that lean toward introversion should never be undervalued in any arena. She discovered how to be bold and assertive when necessary, and how to enjoy solitude, quiet moments alone, to relax and recharge.
Brendalyn is grateful for the opportunity to help others celebrate their inner introvert, allow their personalities to enhance their professional and personal lives, and navigate their path unapologetically.
